Home Sale Status Update
Our house has been on the market for nearly a month and still hasn’t sold. This morning my realtor told me they’re the largest brokerage in the area with 50 agents, and that at this time of year they usually have 15–20 homes under contract. Right now they have only three, all listed under $225,000. She said she’s never seen a market like this and that they’re starting to get concerned.

She also assured me we’re getting strong marketing: our home is listed on all the major real estate sites with a virtual tour, there’s a smartphone app linking directly to the tour, and the For Sale sign includes the tour web address. She doesn’t think there’s anything else that could reasonably be done on the marketing side.

That left me with mixed feelings. On the plus side, it wasn’t just our house — the whole market seems slow. On the minus side, there just aren’t many buyers right now.

I have to say, our house looks great. Decorating is a hobby of mine, and after a little touch-up paint, installing a new kitchen faucet, fresh mulch, and some flowers, it’s move-in ready. I’d love to share a photo, but since my name’s already out there I’ll keep a bit of online privacy.

We live in a pleasant suburb of a larger metro area with excellent public schools, which makes the neighborhood attractive to families. Because the suburb isn’t large, there aren’t many competing properties in our price range, and I think our home compares favorably to the competition.

I’m not panicking yet. We hope to move to our new area in the summer, so we still have some time.
